A Russian fireman was sent hurtling down a ladder after he was struck by a chunk of snow while trying to rescue people from a burning building.

The fireman, who was captured on video, climbed the ladder to the fourth floor where people were waiting to be rescued. As he reached the top, a huge chunk of snow fell from the roof, knocking him backwards.

The fireman managed to cling on until he was rescued by one of his colleagues. One of them then climbed on to save a child from the fire.

Russia’s Emergencies Ministry reported there were no casualties in the incident.
